“The effects of Zika virus for most people are mild symptoms,” Dr. Noguchi said. “However, it has been confirmed that Zika virus infection in a pregnant woman may lead to a newly recognized congenital syndrome that includes a severe birth defect of the brain called microcephaly, but may also include eye defects, hearing problems, or growth restriction.”
